Title: Union Nacional Democratica "Movimiento 20 de Mayo"
Democratic National Union "May 20"
Civic organization formed by businessmen, professionals, technicians,
workers, farmers and other sections of the population. Basic
objective: reestablishment in Cuba of a democratic representative form
of government outlined in 1940 constitution; regulate and stabilize the
political order; and rebuild the economy of the country.
Ideologically to the right of center; inclined toward paramilitary
operations rather than politics. Member of CRC, UR, ULN, and MRAC.

II. HISTORY
Date and Place of Origin: July 1960 in Cuba by Osvaldo SOTO; Sept. 1960 in U. S. by Dr. Andres VARGAS Gomez.
Claim sabotage and other counterrevolutionary activities; in Cuba
published clandestine monthly newspaper AMANECER in Cuba, last edition
May 1962. In U. S. engaged primarily in propaganda and efforts
secure materials and Financial aid for the underground in Cuba.
Joined March 1962 hunger strike at Bayfront Park in Miami; speakers
severely … MYRO for "do nothing" policy. SOTO, UND representative
to CRC, was expelled and seventeen followers resigned, UND still in CRC
but has no representative.
III. CURRENT STATUS
Claim … be engaged in preparation for an uprising in Cuba, in attempted
assassination and anti-Castro propaganda. Supposedly have
capability for infil/exfil operations. Communications between
Cuba and U. S. are bad … to communicate by mail and use of … continues.
Claim shortage radio capability … 300 members in U. S.
