PART II:  SECONDARY ORGANIZATIONS

I. IDENTIFYING DATA:

Common Title:  M. M. C., Masonicos Clandestinos (Clandestine Masons)
                            (In exile:  M. M. L. C., Movimiento Masonico para la Liberacion de  Cuba)

Title:  Movimiento Masonico Clandestino
           Masonic Clandestine Movement

Opposed to CRC although officially refuse to make declarations against it.  Basic principles:  Actively incorporate Hemisphere Masons into the fight against Communism, work for closer union of all Cuban Masons inside and outside Cuba.  Supports every effective action tending to the overthrow of the CASTRO Regime to restore the democratic system to Cuba.

Leading Personalities;  In Cuba:  Dr. Jorge Luis CUERVO Calvo (arrested); Lazaro DANTA CRUZ; Humberto GOMEZ Pena (arrested); Gregorio GARCIA Huet (arrested); Carlos REYES Hernandez (arrested) Humberto GOMEZ Pena (arrested);  In U. S. Dr. Carlos M. PINEYRO DEL CUETO Balboa; Dr. Osvaldo PADRON Lima; Juan Jose LABRADOR; Alberto SALAS Amaro.

II.  HISTORY

Organized as clandestine section in Cuba in May 1959.  Include many veterans of old Cuba Army and of former Revolutionary Army.  Masonic Lodge well organized throughout Cuba.  By Apr. 62, Masons had reportedly completed their clandestine organizations, both political and military, and were prepared to start armed struggle against CASTRO.  Planning form belligerent government which could get recognition abroad and precipitate an invasion.  Claimed weapons enough to start simultaneously in Oriente and Pinar del Rio, with three more provinces to follow.  Claim 23,000 anti-Communist Masons who collaborate in greater or lesser active manner.  In Aug 62 the MMC planned to assassinate CASTRO, but plan was thwarted by DRE attack on Havana.

III.  CURRENT STATUS

Sept. 62 witnessed strong campaign against the Masons; thousands reportedly arrested.  Effect on plans and organization not yet assessed.
