ORGANIZATIONS
I. IDENTIFYING
DATA:
Common Title: MDL
Title: Movimiento Democratica Liberacion
Democratic Movement for Liberation
Probably controlled behind the scenes by Aureliano SANCHEZ
Arango,
founder of AAA and FNDTA (q.v.). Subscribes to
principles of FUR
(one of the organizations controlled overtly by SANCHEZ
Arango).
MDL Director (Raul MARTINEZ Araras) is member of FUR
Executive
Committee. Other leaders: Carlos BUSTILLO
Rodriguez
(Washington, D. C.), Mario FERNANDEZ Lopez (Boston).
One of few
exile organizations proud of association with Castro's 26
July
Movement. Joined MRAC.
II. HISTORY
In a "Declaration of Florida" dated 11 August 1960, MDL
claims to have
been "born" on 26 July 1953 with Castro's attacks upon
Moneado and
Bayamo Barracks, and to have split with Fidel Castro in
1955. Has
never demonstrated any strength within Cuba. No real
activity in
U. S.
III. CURRENT STATUS
Probably no more than a dozen members, but these scattered
in
Washington, D. C. Miami, New York, Boston, Puerto
Rico, Honduras,
Costa Rica, Venezuela, and Peru. MARTINEZ and BUSTILLO
attended
Manolo RAY's September meeting in Puerto Rico, and a "unity"
meeting in
Washington a few months earlier.
