I. IDENTIFYING DATA
A. Common Title or Abbreviation: M. D. C. Democratica Cristiana
B. Title: Movimiento Democrata Cristiano
Christian Democrat Movement
C. Affiliation with Other Groups: CRC,
JNR, ELN, CCODC, JUDEC and BIAC (not all factions of MDC of MDC
affiliated with groups named.)
D. Political Alignment and Basic
Principles: Slightly right of cent; established by Jose RASCO in
Cuba as Christian Democratic force to oppose growth of Communist power
in late '59; protested Castro economic policy, INRA, communist
influence, failure to hold elections; basic principles based on modern
Catholic doctrine. Split by factionalism. Basic
groups: 1) FERNANDEZ Badue (war name: LUCAS), in CRC;
2) DEL JUNCO, considered in Cuba as real leader of exile;
3) BATISTA Falla, losing influence; 4) Ernesto RODRIGUEZ
and Jose RASCO. Factions differ re CRC, U. S. policies.

LAGO O.; Jose Antonio COSTA; Carlos MONTES, leader of largest faction;
Guillermo ARA; Dr. Edelman NOGUEIRA. Msgr. Eduardo BOZA Masvidal,
who travels throughout Latin America and the U. S., is influential in
MDC as advisor and theoretician.
II. HISTORY
A. Date and Place of Origin: RASCO
began organizing in Cuba in late 1959; MDC Manifesto published in
Havana 13 April 1960.
B. Principal Activities to Date:
Formed effective Christian Democratic political organization; after
publication of Manifesto in Diario de la Marina, CASTRO closed down
this famous newspaper; various factions active in resistance since
1959; signed Havana Pact forming JNR, June 1962; BATISTA Falla faction
staged anti-CRC/US rally and hunger strike, Bayfront Park, Miami, May
1962; MDC group is member CCODC in Puerto Rico.
III. CURRENT STATUS
A. Estimated Membership: Cuba 600 U. S. 1200 ELSEWHERE 60
B. Current Activities: Trying
unite factions; DEL JUNCO not acceptable to MIRO; RASCO on CRC mission
in Latin America. Many sabotage plans, but no means to
implement. Cellular organization inside.
C. Support Facilities: Diplomatic
pouch for communication; finances from CRC, private donations, bond
sales. Probably assisted by inside Catholic and lay organizations.
