II.  HISTORY

A.     Date and Place of Origin: 12 Sept. 1960. U. S.
B.     Principal Activities to Date:  Sabotage, TV intrusion operations; participated in April 1961 invasion with numerous arrests and executions; mid 1961 propaganda campaign which saved the lives of Alberto MULLER and Miguel GARCIA; publish newspaper TRINCHERA; Infiltration operations; raid on Habana 24 August 1962.

III.  CURRENT STATUS

A.     Estimated Membership:  Cuba 2,500   U. S. 500 ELSEWHERE    150
B.     Current Activities:  Re-organizing of DRE in Cuba with better compartmentation; no further MRR association due to MRR penetration and numerous DRE arrests mid-1962; propaganda campaigns in US and Latin America against Communist Cuba through media of radio broadcasts, newspaper insertions, ad hoc demonstrations and leaflet and pamphlet distribution; anti-communist political action in Latin American Universities and at international youth conferences; SALVAT issued statement Sept. 1962 that DRE would "attack any Soviet vessels seen in Cuban territorial waters" and warned of further raids.
C.     Support Facilities:  Claim reception committees in Cub with safe housing and transportation; communication via courier and diplomatic pouch; open code, telephone and telegraph.  Financial support from CRC; political and psych activities have received clandestine U. S. support, but DRE sometimes resists U. S. sponsors and control because of disagreement with U. S. policy against activist operations.
