freedom fighters in Pinar del Rio under Batista. Perez Roura has been
informed of this with documentation and refuses to delete your father's
name from his list. He also refuses to delete any of the Batista war
criminals from his list. He states that his list reflects only the

a dissident conference. It also quoted your spokesman: "We don't
understand why you have to ask Fidel Castro for permission [to travel

involved Cuban and Angolan government forces on the one side and South
African and Unita forces on the other. Both sides still claim victory.

I am organizing a book concerning George de
Mohrenschildt, Richmond Harper and my family's association with them
many years ago. I have rare letters, photos and court documents
concerning both men and that concerning the conspiracy to smuggle tons
of explsosives, weapons and ammunition via Mexico for Cuba, c1972. I
was personally in Havana, Cuba aboard the S/S Yarmouth out of Miami in
march, 1959. I was 13.I have been unable to find any mention of this
cruise ship in Havana. It was aboard this vessel in Havana harbor that
I briefly shook hands with Ernesto Guevara, who had come aboard the
ship with his security people to meet some of the passengers. I had no
idea at the time who this man was until years later. I also witnessed
an execution which was very public with cheers, drinking and food
served on the streets near La Cabana Fortress. Can your organization
archive help me find information about these execution events in March,
1959 and the S/S Yarmouth? This ship was later renamed Yarmouth Castle.
Its visit in Havana, 1959, remains a mystery at this point. I have
photos during my trip there and the ship. Your information is awsome
and historical truth. I was also at the Club Tropicana in havana in
march, 1959. There were rows of new John Deere tractors in front of the
main entrance. I believe there are links to my trip with family there
and Richmond Harper, George de Mohrenschidt, Jack Caufield, et al. My
work is purely historical and I do have communication with Cuban
friends, non-political, in Cuba. For their protection, they know little
about this project and I have not asked them for historical archival
information. Thank you.

My brother, Harrison Annable (under Soldiers of
Fortune) disappeared on an alleged fishing trip to the Bahamas in
November 1962. The "Revenge" was found sunk from gunfire with no sign
of the crew of three. Something was so strange about the incident that
many people wanted to forget it. Dad forced a full-scale inquiry by the
Miami Coast Guard. It lasted nine months and testimony was taken under
oath from 18 involved individuals in Miami and The Bahamas. The
conclusion, cleared through D.C., was the crew of "The Revenge" was
presumed dead and likely killed while poaching fishing traps. The FBI
now statesthat Harrison's file is now classified under "foreign
counterintelligence". And the CIA after numerous denials of having
documents now won't release any further documents due to "national
defense" and "protecting CIA sources and methods." Please help me find
the truth. Any information on the following individuals would be
helpful; Spencer B. Meredith and Hugo Gorday of Florida Caribean
Fisheries, Rafael Huguet of Alplha 66, Fernando Cabeza, Bruce Althoff,
Gil Martin Rahm, and, boats named The Revenge, Sylvia and Freskito.
Knowledge of raids on Cuba between November 17 - 27, 1962 would also be
helpful. There must be answer out there. I am not looking for
retaliation, nor retribution,...just what happened to a loved one.

I am the son of Jose Sanchez Capote who was excuted
on feb. 14 1959 at Pinat Del Rio, Cuba. I have been searching for all
the information that I can find on my father. And if there are any

I am in the process of preparing background work for
a book I will be writing surrounding my uncle - Eduardo Dieppa, Brigada

April 11, 2002 By DWIGHT PELZ COUNTY COUNCILMAN For the past several
months the King County Council has considered a proposal which I
introduced to build a "sister-county relationship" with Granma Province
in Cuba. The measure has sparked heated controversy at the council.
Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and right-wing groups have
denounced me as a communist and an enemy of democracy. I recently led a
delegation from King County to Cuba (I paid my own expenses) and Granma
Province on a fact-finding mission to explore building this
relationship. I met hundreds of wonderful people who love Americans but
scorn the American government. I met people with a rich understanding
of their own history, and a shared commitment to the direction their
country is taking. I saw poverty but not hunger. I saw a Third World
nation with a first rate education and health care system. We saw
Havana, perhaps the oldest great city in the Americas. It is the
nightmare of a Seattle architect, because acre after acre of its
beautiful buildings are crumbling in a nation too poor to maintain
them. But Havana is also the dream of a thoughtful Seattle developer
who could easily envision mile after mile of restored condos in livable
urban neighborhoods. I encountered Tim Eyman's vision -- a nation with
no taxes and no infrastructure. The roads are crumbling; the mass
transit is random at best. I saw former Republican gubernatorial
candidate John Carlson's dream -- a nation with little crime and no
need for "Three Strikes and You're Out." I encountered safe streets
with a steady police presence. And I finally got to meet the people
that the United States has been targeting for 40 years with its trade
embargo, its Helms-Burton Act, and its restrictions on my right as an
American citizen to freely travel to Cuba. I met Carlos, Josie and
2-year-old Manuel. Four of us from Seattle were walking through a
beautiful, crumbling neighborhood in Havana when we passed Carlos and
his family who were riding (all three) on their family transportation,
an old bicycle. We struck up a conversation. Carlos teaches English at
a vocational school, and Josie has learned from her husband. They
invited us to their apartment for coffee. They entertained us in a
roughly 800-square-foot apartment, which I would have to describe as
dismal. The sink, stove, and toilet sat side-by-side in a corner with a
roof that leaked when it rains. He explained that he makes $15 a month,
but pays little for food and housing and nothing for health care or
education. Carlos was supportive of the Castro government, but wistful
that he can never afford any consumer items "or to take my wife out to
dinner once or twice a year." He longs for the day the U.S. embargo
will be lifted and trade and tourism can help build the Cuban standard
of living. We later flew about 500 miles from Havana to Granma. We
stayed in the lovely and historical capitol city of Bayamo, and
traveled about to other towns, visiting three schools and several other
sites. We saw a standard of living in rural areas far higher than I
have encountered in my limited Third World travels, to Mexico and
China. We met rural Cubans who had rarely encountered Americans. Time
and again they reacted with smiles and tears when we expressed our
affection for the Cuban people and our opposition to the embargo. We
found teachers and students and farmers and government officials who
were seeking to build Cuba in the face of so many obstacles. We found
support for Castro. What is our government's goal in isolating Cuba
from the United States? If we learn anything from 9/11, or from the
hatred between Israelis and Palestinians, it is that we have to build
trust across national, religious and cultural lines. We are pursuing a
sister-county relationship in order to build understanding between the
people of Granma, Cuba and King County. I romantically believe that
America would benefit if the Garfield High Jazz Band could travel to
the city of Bayamo, Granma and demonstrate to Cubans the beauty of

subjected to it." Visual artist Claudia Camba sent to GI an open letter
written to the Argentine president, in which she points out that
regarding the astonishment over the vote condemning Cuba, "I heard you
say that this was not a vote against Cuba but a vote for human rights."
"I ask then: Where were you when your party voted for the Final Closure
and Due Obedience laws that gave impunity to the assassins and
torturers of 30,000 Argentines? Where were your and your party's vote
in favor of human rights? "Let's not be fooled," she writes. "What Cuba
is being accused of, in an underhanded way, is maintaining life and
honoring human beings in all their facets." She asks with what
authority can we accuse a country free of illiteracy, where all
residents have the same access to education and health care and which
practices solidarity, giving the example of the Latin American Medical
School, which educates "poor youth who in their own country were denied
education and who will work for those who have been denied the right to
medical care because they are poor or lack of economic resources. "Mr.
President, today we have violated the most sacred right, the right of a
country to decide its own destiny¼ because the Cuban Revolution
is not sustained by only one leader, but an entire nation that wants it
that way." Our editorial office also received the solidarity of Marcelo
Cosin and Juan Cosin, son-in-law and grandson, respectively, of writer
and Communist Party member Raúl Larra, who visited Cuba several
times for gatherings at the Casa de las Américas and
participated in meetings with Che. "The Argentine people, the real
Argentine people do not agree with the rats and cowardly leaders. They
vote for Cuba, they vote for its people, and they vote against the
blockade," they asserted. Meanwhile, Javier Heinzmann from Buenos Aires

As a Havana resident in the early 50's with mucho
aficion for the Cuba of those days I'm delighted to find your website.
I must confess that at first glance I'm curious at the objectives and
political orientation but I will be back to learn more. For what it is
worth I think the embargo plays into Castro's hands as an excuse for
any mistake he makes. It should have been lifted years ago but with the
