The following information has been received by this office:

On Friday, February 2, 1996, members of the Democratic Movement, (Movimiento Democratico), a Cuban exile group, announced their upcoming participation in a civil act to protest against Costa Cruise Lines.  This cruise line is making Cuba one of its ports-of-calls, thus violating embargo policies according to organizers of the group.

This event will take place on Sunday, February 11, 1996, at 3:00 p.m.  It will consist of a flotilla of vessels that will depart from Watson Island and remain as a group on the water, in sight of Costa Cruise Lines business offices.  Simultaneously, additional members will also protest at the entrance to the Port of Miami, located at 1015 North American Way, Miami, Florida.

Members of the group have filed a civil action suit against Costa Cruise Lines based on perceived violations of the embargo.

The City of Miami is in the process of issuing a permit.  Approximately 200 demonstrators are expected to attend.

The Criminal Intelligence Bureau will monitor the event and disseminate any additional information expeditiously.
