A new organization known as Puente (Bridge) has called on the Cuban American community to join them for a demonstration on January 27, 1996, at the Melliat Hotel in Miami Beach. The purpose of the demonstration is to bring attention to the fact that the owners of the Melliat Hotel own and operate other properties in Cuba.
Group Puente is the U.S. counterpart of the Alianza Armada (Armed Alliance) and organization that is based in Canada. The demonstration is set to start at 9:00 a.m., until 12:00 p.m.
The intention of the group members is to inform guest at the hotel of the repression and human rights abuses taking place in Cuba under the Castro regime.
City of Miami Beach Police Department have been notified and will cover all security aspects throughout the demonstration.
The Criminal Intelligence Bureau will disseminate any new information expeditiously.
