Jose Dionisio Suarez Esquivel Support
[MIAMI-DADE POLICE DEPARTMENT
C.I.B. UPDATE 98-23 - April 2, 1998]
PROTEST TO SUPPORT JOSE DIONISIO SUAREZ-ESQUIVEL FROM DEPORTATION
The Cuban exile organization known as UNIDAD CUBANA solicited a protest permit from the City of Miami Police Department.
According to information provided by one of the organization's
representatives, approximately 100-200 members convened in front of the
Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), building located at NE
79th Street, between NE 5th Avenue, and Biscayne Blvd., on April 8,
1998.
The purpose of this event was to protest the possible repatriation of
Jose Dionisio Suarez-Esquivel to Cuba by the INS. Suarez is a
former member of various reactionary Cuban exile organizations and had
been imprisoned as a result of his illicit activities.
Due to the popularity of UNIDAD CUBANA and the access to Spanish radio
by some of its leaders, a large group of supporters participated in
this activity.
The Criminal Intelligence Bureau will continue monitoring this event, as well as remaining in contact with INS officials.
