UPDATE NO: CIB-96-54
IN FLIGHT-BROTHERS TO THE RESCUE

The following information has been received by the Criminal Intelligence Bureau:

The Cuban exile organization, Brothers to the Rescue, (BTTR) which as for the past several years flown humanitarian missions searching for Cuban rafters, will resume their rescue flight son Saturday, August 24, 1996, south of the 24th parallel.  Prior to departure, BTTR will hold a press conference at Opa-Locka Airport in which they plan to send a message to the Cuban people and the Cuban Armed Forces.  The press conference is scheduled to commence at 10:30 A.M.

Jose Basulto, founder of the group, announced that as a result of the shoot-down by Cuban Migs of two BTTR planes on February 1996 and the loss of four pilots, the organization has invested monies in equipping the planes with a position reporting capability that allows BTTR the independence monitoring of their own flights.

Basulto, whose pilot's license was suspended after the February attack will fly as a passenger until his license is reinstated.

During the flight, a flower wreath and prayer will be offered on the sight of the downing in memory of the four pilots that lost their lives.
