On August 1, 1996, at approximately 1:08 A.M., unknown person(s) tossed an incendiary device into Marazul Charters, Inc., located at 8324 Southwest 40 Street, Miami, Florida.Though the motive for this crime has not been established, it is believed that such incident could have been conducted in retaliation against Marazul proprietor Francisco Areca [Aruca]. In the past, Mr. Areca [Aruca] has supported various measures sponsored by the Cuban government. Mr. Areca [Aruca] is perceived as a Cuban government collaborator by a large segment of the Cuban exile community. In addition, in 1989 when two explosives devices were also thrown at a since closed business outlet.
Recipients should be aware that two other similar incidents have occurred recently at establishments that have been perceived as a proponents of leftist views (i.e. Centro Vasco Restaurant and Sandinista National Liberation Front Headquarters).
The following attachments provide a listing of all freight forwarding agencies that conduct regular trade with the government of Cuba. As such, those locations may be targeted for similar acts in the near future.
Receiving districts or agencies are encouraged to review the attachment and determine which establishments are located within their area of jurisdiction, for the purpose of using due caution when patrolling or answering calls for service in the respective areas.
Any suspect information gathered while monitoring the listed location should be forwarded to the Arson Unit or the Criminal Intelligence Bureau. In the event that suspect is taken into custody for a similar act, please contact Detective Luis Rodriguez.
