INTELLIGENCE UNIT

UPDATE NO: CIB-338
DATE: January 12, 1996
DETECTIVE: A. Godoy
TELEPHONE: [deleted]

The following information has been received by this office:

On Friday, January 12, 1996, from 4:00 p.m., to 7:00 p.m., members from the Democratic Movement (Movement Democratic) and other liberal anti-Cuban government community members will participate in a peaceful civil demonstration.

This event will take place in front of the World Trade Center, located at 80 S.W. 8th Street, Miami, Florida.  The purpose of this act is to protest against Costa Cruse Lines.  Members claims that Costa Cruise Lines is aiding the Cuban government in their apartheid policies.

The cruise line operates out of Italy and part of its port-of-calls includes Cuba.  This is a violation of the embargo bypassing it's principle by departing from a third country and not from the United States.  This action allows tourists to visit the island forbidding the Cuba nationals to do the same.

Approximately 200 organization members and representatives from various media services will be in attendance at this event.

City of Miami Police Department has issued a permit accordingly.

The Criminal Intelligence Bureau will disseminate any new information expeditiously.
