Governor Lawton Chiles will be arriving in Miami on May 24, 1995. The governor is due at 4:40 p.m., and will travel from Miami International Airport, signature flight support area at approximately 4:45 p.m. The governor's party will travel to the Crown Plaza Hotel, located at 1601 Biscayne Blvd., Miami, Florida, where he will receive an international achievement award. The award ceremony has been scheduled for 7:00 p.m., to 8:00 p.m.
The coalition of local Cuban exile organizations is presently in the process of attaining a demonstration permit from the city of Miami Police Department, Permits Section, in order to show their opposition to Governor Chiles and his immigration policies. An estimated crowd of 100 demonstrators shall be expected at the site.
The coalition of Cuban exile organizations decided on a recent meeting to abstain from conducting demonstrations or acts of civil disobedience during the visit of Cardinal Jaime Ortega to Miami, Florida. Independent organizations such as the one headed by Orlando Bosch, are presently planning to conduct demonstrations at both mass site locations. Security arrangements with officials at affected sites are being conducted at present time. Additional information will follow.
