Dade Grove Owner Captured
by Rebels in Cuba
Among the Americans captured within the past week by Cuban
rebels is a
Raymond Elmore, South Dade property owner who is well known
in this
area.
Elmore, whose home is in Haynesville, La., has lived in Cuba
for many
years as executive of a large sugar refining company.
For some
ten years he has owned and operated grove properties in
South Dade and
has visited the area once or twice each year to look after
his holdings.
The Leader learned yesterday from E. J. Norman, grove
manager for FEC
Fertilizer Co., that that company serves as caretaker for
Elmore's
groves which include a 40-acre avocado grove at Redland Rd.
and Avocado
Dr. and a large lime grove east of Princeton.
According to latest dispatches at press time, Elmore was
still among
the 30-odd Americans for which the U.S. State Department was
seeking
release.
